Sallys Golden Doodles

Puppy Feedback

Sally,

Just wanted to touch base with you and let you know that Bo is doing great.

He has been a blessing and he is such an awesome dog.

I was wondering if you all were going to have any puppies this year? I know someone in the Knoxville area that was asking me about Bo and where I got him.

Hope things are going well for you and Keith.

Take Care,

Robb

Keith and Sally,

I hope that you all are doing well.

I wanted to send you a couple of pictures of Bodhi. He is a GREAT dog. I could not be happier.

Hopefully I can bring him by sometime to see you guys.

Sincerely,

Robb

Sally,

It is good to hear others are having such a good experience

I was on my way out of town when I emailed you earlier so I didn't probably answer some of the questions you had about Bodhi.

He never really sheds (only when I brush him after a bath), which is one reason I chose a black puppy hoping it would have more of the poodle coat.

He hardly ever barks, which is great.

He is so funny, when other dogs bark at him when we run he just looks at them like they are crazy.

He has the greatest disposition. He is always so happy.

I mentioned before he is such a great dog!

I think you all should definitely breed them again.

Take care,

Robb

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good to hear everything is going well.

Bodhi is incredible! He is the smartest and sweetest dog I have EVER been around. He has been a great companion and everyone that encounters him is engrossed with his presence.

I remember when I chose him Keith saying that people will stop and stare at him because of his coat.....and it happens all the time. I take him everywhere with me and he is incredible.

I hope you all are doing well and one day would love to bring him by.....if I ever have a chance.

I may be back to a playmate for Bo one day....Thank you again!

God Bless.

Robb

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sally,

Glad you guys are doing well with the puppies.

Bodhi is Awesome!

He weighs between 65-70 pounds and he is lean and muscular.

He is about 28-29 inches at shoulder height and 38 inches hips to nose.

He is such a great dog.....I know I say that every time I send an email but its true.

He is very gentle with other animals and children and is very smart.

I would love to get another dog one day to keep him company. He is so good with other dogs.

Take Care and let me know if I can do anything else.

Sincerely,

Robb

Hi Sally, I was just cleaning out my e-mail and found this one from you last summer.  I don't know if I ever replied but in case I didn't I am doing so now.  I have not really found a job I enjoy as of yet but I am working on several different things.  Hopefully one of them will work out.  I am keeping my fingers crossed.  Florida this time of year is great.  It is about 79 degrees today and no humidity.  Cool nights and mostly sunny beautiful days.  This is the only time of year to be here.

Zepher is doing great.  We went to the dog park then the beach last Sunday.  I was not sure how far he would run on the beach if we went there first, so we went to the dog park to tire him out.  He had a blast both places.  Last summer he ran from the waves now he just splashes through them.  Washing the sand off was not much fun, however.  I didn't think I would ever get it out of his hair.

I do have a couple of questions.  How big is Walnut now?  Do you have any pictures? Zepher is huge.  Everyone calls him 'Giant Dog.' I haven't taken him for his yearly check up yet so I am not sure how much he weights now.  I am guessing close to 90 lbs. He is really tall but certainly not fat. In fact he is probably on the the skinny side but you can't tell with all his hair. He weighed 60 in June of last year.  Also do you have trouble with his hair matting?  Zepher isn't fond of being brushed and he had to be shaved last summer because he was so matted.  He was so awful and pitiful looking  I vowed to never let it happen again.  Now he is matted around his neck a little from his collar, but it will just have to stay that way because the alternative is not an option.
He is such a great dog and everyone that meets him loves him.  In fact one of my daughters wants him.  She graduates from college in May and depending on what she decides to do maybe a puppy for a graduation would be and idea.  Are you going to have puppies again.  Zepher is beautiful, smart, and has such a great personality I cannot imagine life without him.

The attached pictures were taken around Christmas and a couple of weeks ago. At least I hope that is what is attached.  I somehow got Boomer (the Pug) back.  "He is old" and "it is calmer" here, and "he likes it better" (I am living in my sister's house that is for sale.) than in my townhouse that both girls and two other roomates live in at the moment.  At least that is the excuse Megan gave me.  However, I do have to agree.  I certainly like it here better.

Hope all is well in Tennessee.

Zepher and Sharon

Zepher is doing great.  He is so cute and fluffy.  He is exploring more and
more so like a child that has learned to crawl, I have to keep my eyes on
him.  The good thing is he sleeps more than my children ever did.  We are
constantly working on chewing or biting at things.  I just keep moving him
and giving him his toys.  He has learned to sit before I give him his food
or a treat instead of wildly jumping.  Which I think is pretty good for only
a couple of  days.

I  hope Fairbanks and Nairobi find good homes.  I wouldn't want to have to
figure out how I could take one of them too. I can't imagine someone not
wanting them.

Hi Sally,

So funny to get an email from you now.   Just about one hour ago, a good friend called me and said they were strongly considering getting a doodle.  She mentioned getting a mini, but I'll forward on your email to her, and ask whether they'd consider a full size.

As for us, Lucy (formerly Cinderella as you had named her) is still the love of our lives!  She's simply wonderful and makes us all so happy.  She's the sweetest, most gentle girl and happily sleeps on our bed...and likes nothing better than laying on top of us.  She harldy ever barks, and thankfully never did start shedding, even though she really doesn't have a very curly coat.  Lucy pretty much ended up being an off white color, which certainly is different from the light apricot color pup we got more than 2 years ago.  With the exception that she likes to bolt out the door, when she knows she's not supposed to...and the fact that she has a soft spot for taking socks out of  laundry baskets (although she doesn't ruin them, she pretty much just holds them and piles them around the house), Lucy is the perfect family dog.

So, as I've said before, many, many thanks!!!

Keep in touch,

Deb and family

  -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lucy (formerly known as Cinderella...) is doing great!  She simply has the sweetest disposition and is a little fluffball of love.  She's adjusting to her crate at night and barely cries at all now.  We take her out to go potty around 3:30am, she does her business and goes back into the crate until 6:30am when Jordan takes her out before he leaves for school.  Of course she's having accidents in the house from time to time, but she really knows what to do when we go outside and tell her to go potty.   Right now she's taking a little snooze on the kitchen floor.  She loves to burrow under the pillows on the couch..and finds our bed particularly comfy!  She has great dexterity with her front paws and really has fun playing with a mini basketball and all the other puppy toys she has scattered around the house.

Did you get all the photos I sent you?  Hope so.

We couldn't be happier with our new baby.  Thank you so much!  Ofcourse, it will be wonderful when we don't have to get up in the middle of the night to take her out anymore.     :>)

Hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

All the best,

Deb

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

She is doing wonderful and so intelligent.  All I know so far is that her first night and full day were awesome. You guys did an awesome job of crate (kennel) training her.  Sandy aka Waffle has an absolute wonderful personality.

We couldn't be happier with our new baby.  Thank you so much!

Sally,

I do like the tail short, especially for the grooming ease.  As you know, keeping her combed and washed is a job because she is so big.  She is about 85 pounds.  She is so dear and means a great deal to me, plus, she and Charlie get along fine.  They play a great deal even though she is much bigger.  Did you get my Christmans picture?  I will try to send another one soon.

Love, Susan

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Saturday update:  Everything is going well.  "Lasssie" is adjusting fine.  She plays with Charlie, but if he gets too rough, she stands her ground.  She is very sweet and so easy to love.  She is eating well and this morning I took her out right after we got up and she went to potty.  We came back in and she began to act like she need to do #2, so we went right back out and success was achieved.

I am going today to get a crate.  Last night I fixed her a bed in my room.  She lasted about 15 minutes and then began to whine to get near me.  I put her in the bed with Charlie and I and she found her place and went straight to sleep.  Both she and Charlie were exhausted. I can't thank you enough for this little blessing in my life.  I look forward to many years of love and devotion.

I will update frequently.

God Bless,

Susan

 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sally,

Lola continues to grow.  She is now much larger that Charlie.  They get along very well together and play, play, play.  I had her "fixed" and she did fine.  I also had her hair trimed for the summer and she looks adorable.  Charlie still sleeps at my head in the bed and Lola has taken a position at my feet.  She tried to sleep at the head of the bed with Charlie and I, but it was just too hot for her.  Everyone who meets her falls in love with her.  She is friendly, loving and very soft to touch.  She has added a great deal to my family.

I am doing the normal summer things, as trying to clean, get doctors appointments out of the way, work on inservice hours for school, etc.  I cannot believe the summer is going so fast.

I have a new camera, and as soon as I learn how to do it, I will send a pitcure of Lola.

Love and God Bless to you and your family,

Susan

Sally,

Wow - what a beautiful puppy!  I am so pleased with her.  I love her temperment, her curiosity, her entire physical make-up.  Jaime and Holland delivered our new puppy this evening.  Waffle is doing fine.

I'll begin seeing how she does to a new name. I've been thinking all day yesterday and today for the right fit, and when I least expected it, as I was humming a song from "Annie," the name "Sandy" seemed the perfect fit.

Sandy had enough energy from her travel to want to play.  I went shopping today, and she has new toys, elevated drink and food bowls, dog food etc.

She has already picked a spot in the backyard to do her thing, and she has taken a tour of the house and the back yard a few times already.

Right now she is fast asleep.  The check will be out tomorrow to you folks.

Send the papers on her shots etc., so I can take them to the vet.

More later and photos will be sent too.

Sincerely,

Sue

Hi Sally,
We had Ariel (the new name) checked out by our vet and she said that everything
looks good.  She did say that she does need to put on a little weight which does
not seem to be a problem because she has a sensational appetite.  Ariel has
adjusted very well to her new home, she sleeps in her crate from 10:30 - 6:30
and I expect her to be house broken in about another week.  She is doing very
well and my kids love her.  Our 14 year old blind poodle could do with out her
though.  Ariel try s to bite him playingly and he can keep up with her to fight
back.  She seems to be a very smart dog and she looks like she is also going to
be a big girl.
Take care,
Craig

 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Sally,

Ariel is doing very well.  She now weighs around 55 lbs and  also  does not
shed.  She also has a beautiful black coat with a very small amount of very dark
brown around her snout.  We have had her shaved a few times already.  She is
extremely playful and does nip a little when my kids play with her, I do think
it is all in good fun.  She gets along great with people and other dogs,
although our 14 yr. old blind and deaf toy poodle can do without her
play-fullness.  Some folks at first are intimidated with her black coat and
massive bark.  She is a good watch dog but also does get scared at the funniest
things.

We have been enjoying her very much.  She is extremely fast and enjoys chasing
every wild creature she sees.  We started letting her swim this summer and she
loves the water.

We are actually up at our house in Maine this week, when we return I will send
you an updated photo.  Good luck breeding again, I don't think you will have any
trouble finding owners for your next litter.  Everyone that sees our dog falls in love with her and wants to know what kind of
breed she is.

Thanks again for your email,

Craig

Hi there,
Great to hear from you.

We are absolutely having the best, fun loving, romping time with Lucy!!!

(Cinderella as you named her).

She is just the sweetest, most loving, gentle ball of mush!  She's very
easy going, doesn't spook easily (fireworks and thunder don't really
bother her at all), and she hardly ever barks...which is very nice.  :>)
Lucy has the funniest personality, she loves to play with her toys and
strews them all over the house, except when we're in bed and then she
likes to bring them ALL on our bed with her, where she likes to try and
snuggle under the covers and plop down on our pillows.  She's always up
for a game of fetch and runs around the house like a crazy puppy, she's
fast as can be and looks like a little pony galloping when she runs.
Lucy is great with the kids and likes nothing better than to lie at
someone's feet..or better yet, on someone's lap, if they let her!  We
never feed her while we're at the table, and because of this, she never
begs for food.  We can eat on the couch and all we have to do is give
her a stern "no" and she'll lay down and not bother us.  Although,
she'll give us those wonderful sad doodle eyes....
She sleeps in a giant crate (we call it her condo) at night and she's
very comfy and happy in there.  All we have to do is say, "crate" and
she walks herself in there.

Lucy has been housebroken since about 4 months old.  From time to time,
she gets a case of puppy nutsiness and decides she'd like to chomp on a
shoe or my new handbag...but overall, she's very good and doesn't do any
damage.
She's definitely a major chewer though, and destroys toys all the time.
We're always replacing with new ones, and she's always happy to try them
out.  There is one thing that she's had since she was a baby, it's a big
stuffed pineapple (about one foot high), it's like a pacifier to her.
She'll spend an hour just lightly holding it in her mouth, it seems to
calm her and she loves to hold it and just look out the sliding glass
door.  Her eyes almost glass over, just like when a baby is sucking on a
bottle. It's the funniest thing to see!

I wouldn't say she's totally shed free, but for the most part her coat
is terrific.  When she rubs up against you, sometimes we'll get a small
clump of hair, but when you rub your hand along her body, no hair comes
off at all.  She's this beautiful mix of color - ranging from almost
white on her head to almost golden (with white running thru it) on her
tail.  Her tummy is all white, her back is golden with visible lighter
highlights, and the hair on her head is more poodle like, but her tail
is more golden retriever like.  She's as soft as can be!
Lucy weighs about 40 lbs., which I suppose definitely makes her the
smallest of the litter (just like what we had asked for).  She's
definitely long, tall and thin right now, so we figure she'll put on
another 5 lbs. or so by the time she turns one year old.  You'd never
know that she has a skinny body though, with her wonderful doodle coat,
she looks very solid.   She's such a good girl and lets us clip her
nails or trim the hair in front of her eyes, or brush her...whatever we
need to do, she pretty much just lets us.  We've had her professionally
groomed and got a haircut two months ago, the girl said she was a very
easy dog to work with.  We'll probably do it again the end of this
month...seeing that Florida is like a hot swamp in the summer!

Lucy is most definitely the envy of the neighborhood.  Everyone stops to
pet her and ask what kind of dog she is.  I've given out your website
(although someone told me they tried to go to it and it didn't exist
anymore), and your tel #.  She has plenty of puppy playdates too.  In
fact, for fourth of July she joined us at a friends for a backyard pool
party.  There were about 30 people and four dogs, Lucy had the best time
for herself!  So far, she gets along with all dogs and never growls.
One of her favorite things is to go in the car.  She's always trying to
sneak in when she sees me getting ready to leave the house.

Can you tell we're happy with Lucy?
Thank you very much for adding this wonderful baby to our family.  She's
definitely a lot of work, but so worth it!  Here are a few recent photos
to make you smile.  I'll have a lot more photos to email soon, once I
download them.

Lucy has made a place in all our hearts...

All the best,

Deb

Hi Sally,

Life with Lucy (formerly Cinderella at your home) continues to be lots
of fun!
She has the funniest personality and is simply the most sweet, loving
animal.  She very rarely barks, which we're happy about.  She likes
nothing more than to try and hold two or three toys in her mouth at the
same time and run around like a crazy pup.  She's fast as lightning and
thinks a good game of chase is just the best.

Lucy is definitely mischevious, and takes stuffed animals from the kids
bedrooms and goes into the laundry baskets to steal socks as well, then
she tries to slink by us and pretend that there's nothing in her mouth.
She doesn't actually destroy them, but just sort of likes to hold them
in her mouth and then distribute them all over the house!
She loves any animal and any person she meets - her long tail wags so
hard that her whole body shakes from side to side.

Her coat is soft and a mix of very loose curl and somewhat straight as
well.  Her tail is mostly retriever like w/ long hair.  Thankfully, she
doesn't really shed.  From time to time we'll get a few hairs on black
pants, and when she rubs her back all over a dark carpet, we can see a
few hairs, but other than that, she's really shed free!  Lucy is about
36 lbs. (which I know must be so much less than the rest of her litter)
but looks much heavier because of her shaggy coat.  People assume she's
close to 60 lbs. until they feel her.  She's long and tall though, just
skinny under all the fur.  You should see her in the bathtub - we call
her Q-tip or stick dog then.  Her coloring ended up being light, almost
cream colored.  Her tail and ears are darker, more the color of a light
retriever.

Other than that, and the fact that if she sees an open door she bolts to
get out and run free through the neighborhood, she's an awesome dog!

I've included four photos - #1 Lucy at the dog park (she's leading the
pack),
#2 Lucy and our six year old (this
was taken shortly after she had come back shaved from the groomer.  She
looked ridiculous and we made sure the groomer knew not to ever do that
again).
#3 Lucy with my brother and I
(this is her typical look)
#4 Lucy being held by my brother

Glad to hear all is well on your end.
If you need more photos, or answers to other questions, I'm always here.
Happy, Happy holidays to you and your family!

Deb

Hi Sally!

We are the Whites from Jupiter, FL who own Flash ---who has to be the most lovable, tolerable dog of the first litter!  Growing up with three kids has made him a very tolerant, yet playful dog.  Our kids are 3, 7, and 10 and if I include Flash in on the kid count well, I guess he’s 1 ½  now.  My 7 and 10 year old play a lot with him, but it is our three (almost 4) year old daughter that is constantly with Flash, in his face, loving, hugging, napping with, and of course getting him to do tricks for treats (she’s figured out that when she has a treat she can get him to do just about anything.  We didn’t give Flash his first haircut until he was about 9 months old and it was a shocker b/c we thought we were brushing him but down below all that soft fluff were mats that we didn’t know were there.  Needless to say, when we went to pick him up they walked him out right past me and our three kids and none of us knew it was Flash.  He looked more like a goat that our dog.  But the hair quickly grew and now we(I) groom him myself  ($70 every 2 months is more that I spend on my haircuts so I invested in some professional clippers and do it myself now.  His health is excellent—he’s on IAMS dry dog food – the vet said it was good and more affordable than some of the other brands.  We waited until he was a year old to neuter him and that went well.  Other than that there have been no problems at all.  It’s funny b/c he thinks he’s just one of us.  If we’re all on the couch watching t.v. you can bet he’s going to find a spot somewhere on that couch even if it means squeezing in b/t one of us!  He’s so funny like that.  He just loves to be around people.  If I go to do laundry upstairs, he’ll come up and lay on the laundry room floor, or wherever I am.  I have attached some photos of him.  Some date back to last Christmas when he was only 3-4 months old.  There is one of him on my parent’s floor with my brother’s black cocker spaniel during Christmas, both worn out from playing.  There are a couple of him napping with my youngest, Hayley, on the floor.  I have 9 to send you so I’ll break them up into 3 e-mails so as to not bog down your computer.  Let me know if there is anything else you would like to know about him.  As you’ll see, he didn’t keep his rusty highlights he had as a small puppy, but is now more white (which in Florida isn’t a bad thing-at least better that black!)

Take care and good luck with that new litter!

Lesley

Hi Sally, just wanted to say thanks for the really great doggy. There has been no problem with my other two dogs and no 'accidents'. He yapped for only 15min or so when we went to bed last night. His crate is in my office with my other two. He seems a quick learner and very good natured. You've done a fine job with him!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi Sally,
I just want to say to you that Bemus has been a blessing to our family
over these past few weeks. In his first week here, we kept him in his
crate at night, but the poor baby got so scared being alone. He howled
and howled until my mom and I finally came to a decision that I would
sleep in the living room with him until he was old enough to cope. Our
vet agreed with us. She says that trying to crate train a puppy this
early is like trying to potty train a 6 month old child. So I have been
sleeping out on the couch with him, and he sleeps through the night and
wakes me up around four thirty for his breakfast. Our entire family
took to him immediately, especially my father. At first, when I told
him we would be getting a "golden doodle", he was skeptical. But as
soon as I walked in the door with the puppy on February 25th after we
had met you, he fell in love. Since my mom worked for my dad out of his
home office, the baby was never alone at home in his crate for more
than an hour or two, and whenever I come home from work, he always
greets me with such genuine joy. Then last Friday, something happened
that showed us how precious Bemus truly is. I slept on the couch with
him as usual, and my father woke me up at four like he usually does. He
had to leave at 7 that morning to be in court for his latest client, so
he woke up early as usual to take over the morning shift with the puppy
while he got ready. I fed the puppy, talked with my dad for a few
minutes, kissed him and the puppy good night, and then went back to my
own bed to sleep for a couple more hours before work. It was at 5:45
that my mother woke me up in hysterics with the news that my father had
had a heart attack writing in his journal at his desk. I rushed out of
bed to find nine emergency vehicles in our cul-de-sac, all with sirens
flashing. I held the soft puppy in my arms as the EMS people took my
father away in an ambulance. Poor Bemus was alone in the house with my
grandmother and our two older dogs for two long days, while my mother,
my sister, and I all stayed at my father in the hospital. My father
never woke up. At 12:47 on Sunday, my beloved father passed away. He
was 64, and the healthiest man I know. The doctors, his family, and his
dear friends were baffled by how quickly he was gone from us. We came
home from the hospital with broken hearts, only to find Bemus jumping
with joy to see us finally return. Oblivious to the horrors of what had
happened this weekend, he was our only source of happiness. In the past
few days, with friends and family coming in and out of our house, Bemus
has charmed even the most devasted of people. In his office, my mom and
I found the last entry in his journal, and this is what it said:

Five things I am grateful for in my life:

1.I have the power to choose my thoughts.

2.That I can dare to choose better thoughts.

3.That I can create my own world.

4.My beautiful daughters.

5.The joy of Bemus when he greets me in the morning.

That was the last thing he ever wrote, most likely minutes before he
left us forever. I am eighteen years old and without a father now, but
I know that he lived a great life. Hundreds of people that I have never
met attended his funeral, and his obituary ran in papers across the
country, including the New York Times. I heard the other day that it
had reached England as well. My father was a good man, one of the best.
He was a loyal friend, a compassionate lawyer, a loving husband, and a
devoted father. I will think about him every day for the rest of my
life, and I will never forget his last written words. He loved Bemus,
and I will always be grateful to you and your family for blessing us
with such a wonderful puppy. Know that he is very loved.

Thank you,

Easter here was a little lonely except for Zepher.  My daughter and her
boyfriend/fiancé (depending on what day it is) were here for a week and left
on Sat. afternoon.  Normally not a big deal but my sister and her family all
left for Florida on Friday for a week.  So it was cold and quiet. Not that
there wasn't anything to do after having two extra people and a sweet, old,
shedding pug around for a week.  Zepher tried so hard to get him to play and
every once in awhile he would but he mostly just ignored Zepher.  He (the
pug) did however teach Zepher one little thing.  That is; the couch is a
very comfortable place to crawl up and take a nap.  Zepher didn't pay much
attention to the couch before, even when I was on it.  However, since Boomer
left when I can't find him in the usual napping spots, tile floor in laundry
room, between the wall and toilet in the half bath, and under the computer
desk, he has been curled up head on a pillow on the couch.  He is so cute
and I certainly don't care.  He is getting big too. At least in size.  After
picking up Boomer who feels like a squishy bowling ball Zepher is light even
though he looks much bigger.  Must be all that fluffy hair.

I can't imagine life without Zepher.  Mostly he is laid back and calm with excited
puppy moments.  Usually every night before he goes to bed he goes into the
wild child, into everything, can't take your eyes off for a second,
mischievous little boy/puppy.  Then he crashes and sleeps usually until I
get up between 7 and 8.

I wouldn't be surprised if my daughter wanted a puppy next year.  So let me
know when you breed Honey again.  I will send pictures once in awhile and
would love for you to do the same.  I would love to see how Walnut is
growing and looks compared to Zepher.

Thanks for Zepher,
Sharon

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Sally,  Lola is fine and very active.  She still remains very, very sweet and loving.  I took her to school today and she was a huge hit.  There is a teacher there that is interested in a pup.  Have you decided to keep Walnut?  She was so impressed with Lola's kindess and loving way.  Please let me know.  I will send another payment the first week of May.

Thanks, Susan

Hi Sally,

Ariel is doing great, she is now 35lbs and growing fast.  Our vet thinks she will be at 50 lbs in a few weeks.  She has a great temperament and she loves people and they love her despite her ferocious bark.  We had her up to our house in Maine a few weeks ago and she just loves the cold and snow.  Thanks for checking up on our puppy, she is doing great!

Thanks for the feedback, we'll go ahead with a four foot fence then.

Here are some recent pics of Lucy love - she is truly a wonderful puppy
and adds joy (and frustration too, ofcourse...) to all of our lives!
She's into reading and playing games...as she has eaten the front cover
to a few paperbacks and had a little snack out of the corner of the
Scattergories game box!     : )

She has such a gentle disposition and is a good listener, most of the
time.  She loves to have her tummy rubbed and immediately rolls over for
tummy scratches as soon as you touch her, but she's not needy and
doesn't whine, get startled easily or bark much, which is so nice.  Lucy
is really a mellow pup and just sort of goes with the flow.  Last week I
came down the stairs to find our 5 year old and her little girlfriend,
trying to use Lucy as a wheel barrel...and she didn't seem to mind.  She
loves to gather all her toys and bring them all up on the couch.  She
hides under pillows and likes nothing better than to sleep on my head in
our bed, when we let her.  Lucy loves to go in the car and likes nothing
better than meeting new people and other dogs, she's very social.  As
you can see from the big group photo, she even joined in and was a part
of our New Years Eve party that we had at the house!

She uses her paws more than most dogs I've seen.  She's mastered, "sit"
and "fetch" and we're working on "stay" and "down".

The only negative thing I can think of, is that she pees in her crate,
if she's in there for more than 3 hours at a time during the day.  At
night she holds it from about 11pm until 5am...so it's like having a
newborn all over again, but she's worth it!

If you have any photos of her siblings that you can share, that would be
fun to see.  I can't believe one of the puppies is 37 lbs already.  Lucy
is just hitting the 20 lbs. mark right now.  She's got about 4 inches of
fluff all around her, so she actually looks pretty big, but when we give
her a bath it's easy to see, she's a skinny little thing.  She hadn't
shed at all up until a week or so ago, now she seems to be shedding her
puppy fluff (it sort of comes off in soft clumps), so we'll see what
happens over the next month or so.  Obviously we're hoping that it will
stop.  Her fur is a mix of straight and curly, but overall it's soft and
downy feeling.  As you can tell, we love her!

Thanks so much for coming into our lives with this wonderful puppy
addition to our family!  Keep in touch.

All the best,

 Deb

I just wanted to drop you a quick note to tell you how I am doing. First my
New Mom changed my name to Zepher, I think it is a gentle sea breeze or
something like that.  It reminds her of home in Florida on the beach.  It's
a pretty good name I guess I will get used to it.   So far I am doing pretty
good, I think.  I do miss playing with my brothers and sisters though.  My
new Mom plays with me but there is nothing like a game of chase or wrestling
with someone my size.  I cried about ten minutes yesterday in the car then
crawled on the new Mom's lap, got some pets, then went back to my pillow bed
and went to sleep.  I only cried about five minutes in my crate last night
when it was bed time.  I also slept from about 10:00p.m. until 6:30 am this
morning, with no accidents in my cage.  Mom was really tired from almost no
sleep the night before so we went to bed early. I had a pretty traumatic day
myself.

I am being a good boy or at least trying with this potty thing.  I go every
time we go outside first thing.  Sometimes I just forget I can't go wherever
I am.  But Mom picks me up and takes me out so I know it won't take me long.
It is really windy here and a little cold but we went for a walk and I
just follow close behind.  I don't want to get lost you know.  I had a bath
this morning which was okay.  Mom took me in the shower (it is a big one)
and I didn't really care for standing there waiting for her to wash me, but
the washing part was fine.  The warm water felt good so I didn't even
squirm.  That drying thing I am not to sure about though.  It was loud and
blew on me but it sure didn't take long for me to get dry and a lot warmer.
So in the winter at least on top of this mountain I might have to get used
to it.

I was tired after all the activity this morning so was falling asleep on the
rug while Mom ate lunch, but then she decided to put me in that crate and I
didn't like it.  I cried for an hour.  Finally I stopped, but then it took
me a long time to get out because I started again every time I saw her.
Finally I stopped long enough for her to get me out. I made it hard for her
but she stuck to her guns.  I sure need to remember that trick.  Out when
you don't cry, not when you do.  But what do you want from me.  This is my
first day!!!!!

So now I am really tired so I am going to take a nap right here under the
table by Mom's feet.  I just wanted to let you know I am doing pretty good
considering I miss you, all the kids, and everyone I used to play, eat and
sleep with.

I'll keep you posted on what is happening here.  Also here are a couple of
pictures of me in my new house.  One in my bed (which I like to chew on) and
the other of my first dinner.  (Aren't these big bowls.)  They belong to my
old cousin a Springer Spaniel who probably wouldn't like me using them, but
he isn't here so it is okay.

Bye,
Zepher
